FOR DANCERS OF ALL ABILITIES – Friday, September 18, 1-3pm

Alice Sheppard took her first dance class in order to make good on a dare; she loved moving so much that she resigned her academic professorship in order to study and begin a career in dance. She studied ballet and modern with Kitty Lunn and made her debut with Infinity Dance Theater of New York. After a brief apprenticeship Alice joined the Bay Area’s AXIS Dance Company where she toured nationally and tought in the company’s education and outreach programs. After performing the work of Marc Brew, Sonya Delwaide, David Dorfman, Kim Epifano, Joe Goode, Shinichi Iova-Koga, Alex Ketley, Margaret Jenkins, Victoria Marks, Steve Paxton, and Kate Weare, Alice became a freelance dancer and choreographer. She has danced in projects with GDance and Ballet Cymru in the United Kingdom and with Marjani Forté, MBDance, Infinity Dance Theater, and Steve Paxton in the United States. As a guest artist she has danced with Full Radius Dance Company and AXIS Dance Company. Alice has performed as a solo artist and academic speaker throughout the United States, and she is thrilled to perform in Chicago with MOMENTA. As a choreographer, Alice is driven to create movement that challenges conventional understandings of disabled and dancing bodies. She desires to create work that extends our understanding of technical virtuosity while stretching our emotional capacities.
