MCA STUDIO: BARAK ADE SOLEIL, NEW & RE-INTERPRETED DANCES
Sat, Sep 12, 2015, 3 pm
An MCA Stage New Works Initiative presented as part of ADA 25 Chicago
Barak adé Soleil is a disabled artist of color committed to exploring the beauty of the disabled, racialized body as an inherent reflection of humanity. Recognizing the 25th anniversary of the ADA, he is developing new repertory during a week-long residency at the MCA, which includes solo and duet works and a virtual collaboration with Puerto Rico’s Awilda Rodriguez Lora, who contributes choreography and media, culminating in a final performance on September 12. This residency is part of adé Soleil’s deep engagement with the rich traditions of the African diaspora, disability arts and culture, and the innate wholeness of all bodies while questioning the social and political contexts in which dance is created and interpreted.
