An exhibit is under development focusing on technology and its impact on people with disabilities. This exhibit is scheduled to launch during the ReelAbilities Film Festival as a complement to the screening of the film FIXED, a production about disability, normalcy and exploring technologies that promise to change our bodies and mind. Additionally, NMHMChicago and BACKBONES are community partners for Adler University’s Community Service Practicum (CSP) and have six interns working on developing the exhibit and planning the ReelAbilities festival. The CSP is a unique, non-clinical experience, meant to expose future practitioners to concepts of social justice and social change.
BACKBONES is a nonprofit providing peer support for people with spinal cord injury and similar disabilities. BACKBONES also hosts events to bring communities of people with and without disabilities together. Education, awareness and meaningful connections are the foundation of BACKBONES programs.
