PERSON-CENTERED APPROACHES TO COMMUNITY INTEGRATION

Housing Initiative – CIF is committed to supporting community-based housing opportunities for individuals with disabilities. At a time when government housing is at capacity and funding is not increasing, CIF is working with families toward creating housing options that their loved ones need and deserve. In this 25th Anniversary year of the ADA, the Coleman Foundation has funded a new project that will allow CIF to redesign our proven process for alternative housing creation, making it available to more families. By putting this tool in the hands of individuals and families, new solutions for independent living and community inclusion are possible.

PERSON-CENTERED APPROACHES TO COMMUNITY INTEGRATION

Employment Initiative – CIF approaches employment for individuals with disabilities in a person-centered way. To fulfill the ADA’s promise of equality and full participation for people with disabilities, CIF is newly engaged in a Customized Employment pilot project to work with job seekers and employers using a unique and effective method. The Customized Employment approach has been proven to increase employee satisfaction and employer profitability. In addition, CIF is developing online tools to support employers’ success in hiring and integrating individuals with disabilities into their workforce. We expect this approach to transform employment among individuals with disabilities in Illinois.
