25 FOR 25 CULTURAL ACCESS PROJECT

The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust is participating in the ADA 25 for 25 Cultural Access Project, and will focus on three areas during 2015: Touch Tours for guests who are blind or with low vision; a Sign Language Interpreted Tour for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing; and updated English language translations with content themes for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing. These projects will be implemented at four Frank Lloyd Wright Trust historic sites, and will serve as a pilot for a longer-term programming.

SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETED TOURS

A certified sign language interpreter will be hired to work with one of the tour guides to lead a tour for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing. This interpreter will do pre-visits to the site and meet the guide they will be working with to get a good understanding of any special language, content, etc., needed to interpret these tours. A schedule for the year will be published and promoted – 1 tour at each site.

TOUCH TOURS

Tours will be developed, with props, vivid descriptions and site information to allow blind or low vision guests to experience the remarkable spaces designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. A schedule for the year will be published and promoted – 1 tour at each site. Staff and volunteers will be trained to help lead guests.

TOUR SCRIPTS

New scripts will be written for each site, focusing on specialty interest areas. Guests who are deaf or hard of hearing will be able to choose from printed material about special themes – architecture, history, interior design, etc. – to take with them on their tour. These materials will be available at all sites for walk-in guests who are deaf or hard of hearing.
