TAKE YOUR LEGISLATOR TO WORK DAY
In honor of the 25th anniversary of the ADA and National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), in October, Illinois APSE will promote "Take Your Legislator to Work Day." On this day, employees with disabilities will invite their legislator(s) to their workplace to see first-hand the power of community-integrated employment for people with disabilities.
APSE encourages participants to: Provide a tour of the workplace highlighting where the employee works and job duties performed; Introduce the legislator to co-workers and employer; Discuss their experience working in the community. Each participant/employee should emphasize the 25th anniversary of this significant legislation to their legislator, that there is still work to be done and they would like the legislator’s support.
People with disabilities interested in participating should follow the steps that outlined within the APSE toolkit, to be posted on the APSE Illinois Facebook page in July.
