Fred Hersch will discuss his trailblazing career, life as a gay man living with AIDS, and his HIV/AIDS advocacy.
LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
Thresholds is participating in designing the Leadership Institute for People with Disabilities - a legacy initiative of ADA 25 Chicago. The vision for this Leadership Institute is to expand the number of people with disabilities who serve on private and public sector boards, commissions, in appointed office and in professional leadership capacities. During the ADA 25th anniversary year, multiple partners will play a role in the Institute, as we test curriculum, recruitment and network-building strategies, forge partnerships and develop a long-term plan to create an Institute that will create a pipeline of individuals who increase the diversity of metropolitan Chicago's civic leadership.
Thresholds is also currently engaged in an effort to increase the ADA accessibility of some of their older program sites and residences, including elevators, ramps, ADA bathrooms and kitchens, and new doorways. They are also performing an ADA assessment analysis of their entire real estate portfolio with an aim to complete a 5 year plan to roll-out initiatives across the agency to increase ADA accessibility.
Established in 1959, Thresholds provides healthcare, housing, and hope for thousands of persons with mental illnesses in Illinois each year. Through care, employment, advocacy, and housing, Thresholds assists and inspires people with mental illnesses to reclaim their lives.
